METHOD![]() The majority of our fishing is done from a driftboat. My craft of choice is a Ro Skiff. This low-profile boat allow for easy entry/exit. A low bow also enables you sit down and cast. By casting from the seated position, you maintain a lower profile and can get closer to the trout. A shorter cast makes getting the right location of the fly and proper drift much easier. More fish caught- fewer fish spooked! Times of high water call for the use of an inflatable raft. Avon rafts were the original boats used by the first outfitters on Montana's rivers. They provide two anglers a great opportunity to drift and fish effectively. ![]() During times of low water our preferred method of approach is on foot. Whether it's Rock Creek, the Bitterroot or other tributaries, some of my most enjoyable days on the water are while wading. The month of August is probably the best time to park the boat and put on the boots. If you don't mind walking a bit, you can fish a run with the warm sun on your back, the cold water on your legs and a nice cutthroat at the end of your line. |
